Having already made her international debut for South-Africa, Andrie achieved yet another milestone when she was selected for South-Africa’s 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup team.
Steyn, a 2nd year BSc Sport Science student at the University of the Western Cape, will form part of a 15 player squad representing South-Africa in the global tournament. The tournament will take place in the United Kingdom from 24 June to 23 July 2017.
Being born in Durban, and having attended Cornwall Hill College, the opening batsman reflects on when it all started and she knew that she wanted to be a cricketer.
“I saw the boys play and it looked really fun,” she remembers. “So I started to play mini-cricket with the boys in Grade 1, and I was introduced to girls’ cricket in Grade 4. And although I tried many other sports, cricket is the one I enjoyed the most.”
Being selected for South-Africa, and especially to play at a world cup, was one of Andrie’s aspirations as a cricketer.
“I’m very happy about my selection,” Steyn stated. “It has been a dream of mine to represent my country at a World Cup, and something that I have been working towards for a long time.”
